#23 Alabama Moves Past Illinois State, 7-4, In The Second Of A Two-Game Series



Bloomington, Ill. -#23 Alabama moved past Illinois State University, 7-4, in the second of a two-game series on Saturday. The team earned its 20th win of the season and senior Jack Rooney earned a hat trick in today’s match.

Dylan Teed struck the first goal of the game immediately into the first. Not a minute later, Jack Rooney scored with assists from Teed and Taylor Joseph to up Alabama’s lead to two goals.

Dane Sana received a minor penalty with 9:35 left in the first. With 3:13 remaining, Jeremy Hannah scored to up Alabama’s lead to 3-0 at the end of the period.

ISU’s Jeremy Norway responded with back-to-back goals shortly into the second to cut Alabama’s lead to one goal. Teed scored with assists from Michael DeLise and Taylor Bowman, and Alabama led, 4-2, at the end of the period.

Rooney scored his second goal of the game with assists from Hannah and Bowman just 1:04 into the third. ISU responded seconds later to score and cut Alabama’s lead back to two goals.

A penalty was called on ISU with 13:50 remaining and Joseph scored a power play goal with an assist from Teed to raise Alabama’s lead to 6-3. With 12:11 on the clock, ISU’s DJ mussey was sent to the box for boarding.

Jack Rooney took advantage of the power play to score and earn a hat trick with 11:17 left on the clock. With just minutes left, ISU’s Andrew VanDyke scored to cut Alabama’s score to 7-4 at the end of the game.
