#22 Alabama Drops To #12 Liberty, 2-7, In The First Of A Two-Game Series

LYNCHBURG, Va. - #22 Alabama dropped to #12 Liberty University, 2-7, in the first of a two-game series on Friday night. The last time Alabama allowed five goals in the first period was against Illinois State on Oct. 4, 2015.
Liberty’s Josh Hamilton scored the first goal of the game 6:08 into the first period. Seconds later, Devin Pierce scored to increase Liberty’s lead to two goals.
With 13:05 remaining in the first, Pierre Ouellette received a minor penalty for hooking and Liberty’s Zane Schartz responded with a power play goal. The Liberty Flames struck two more goals by the end of the first to leave Alabama trailing, 0-5, at the end of the period.
Alabama switched goaltenders from freshman Garret Kingsbury to Junior Sam Schilling going into the second. With 15:04 left in the period, Liberty scored back-to-back goals to raise its lead, 0-7.
Taylor Joseph put Alabama on the scoreboard for the first time in the game with just 1:45 remaining in the second. Shortly after, Dylan Teed put the puck in the net to cut Liberty’s lead
by two goals at the end of the period. The third period went scoreless and Alabama dropped to the Flames, 2-7.
