#23 Alabama Beats Illinois State, 6-4, In The Second Of A Two-Game Series

Alabama beat Illinois State University, 6-4, in the second of a two-game series on Saturday night. Alabama had four power play goals in tonight’s match and three Alabama players recorded a multi-point game.
Jeremy Hannah struck the first goal of the game 8:40 into the first period with an assist from Nick Messina. Illinois State’s Joe Perrelle responded with an unassisted goal at 6:23 to tie the game. With 2:50 left, Kyle Melton scored and put ISU in the lead by one goal. Illinois State’s Connor Boscaccy received a minor penalty for elbowing with just 19 seconds left in the first.
Alabama entered the second period with 1:41 left on the power play and Dylan Teed was able to take advantage to tie the game, 2-2. Illinois State’s Dan Addie was sent to the box for a five minute major elbowing penalty and 14:39 left in the period. Vaughan Kavanaugh responded with a power play goal and an assist from Nick Messina to put Alabama in the lead, 3-2.
With 9:49 left in the second, Alabama was called for too many men on the ice and Sam Messina served a two minute bench penalty. Immediately after Alabama killed the penalty, ISU’s Jeremy Norway scored with assists from Ryan Glennon and Joseph Bower to tie the game, 3-3. With only one second left in the period, Stephen MacInnis was sent to the box for boarding.
Alabama entered the third on the penalty kill and DJ Mussey took advantage of the power play to score and put ISU back in the lead. With 9:02 left on the clock, Mussey received a penalty for cross checking. Pierre Ouellette scored on the power play with an assist from Jeremy Hannah to tie the game once more.
Shortly after Ouellette’s goal, ISU received another penalty and Taylor Bowman put the puck in the net with an assist from Dylan Teed. With only 30 seconds left in the game, ISU pulled its goaltender, Joey Garapolo, to add another skater on the ice. However, Jeremy Hannah scored on the empty net to secure the win, 6-4.
