Alabama Hockey has partnered with the American Legion Matthew Blount Post 555 to host a military appreciation night during its game against Illinois State on Friday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. CT. The game will take place at the Pelham Civic Complex.
Veterans and active military personnel in uniform, with military ID or proof of service will receive free admission. These personnel will also receive miniature flags donated by The Exchange Club of Shelby County while supplies last. In addition, Golden Rule BBQ, McAllister’s Deli, Texas Roadhouse, The Clubfather, DAR, and Post 555 will donate gift bags items.
The Pelham Fire Department will display a large American flag at the rink’s entrance. Members from the Thompson High School JROTC will present the colors while members of the Pelham High School choir sing the National Anthem.
Post 555 will provide an informational display tent with the flags of each branch and a “Fallen Heroes” table in the arena’s main lobby where attendees can take photos from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Post 555 will also have a drawing for a “Perched Golden Eagle” wood carving donated by Woodlot Artisans Chainsaw Art Gallery. All proceeds from the drawing will go toward supporting the American Legion veterans programs.
Other organizations including David Lindsay Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Pelham Youth Hockey Association, Thompson High School JROTC, and other youth groups will be part of the scheduled events to make this night special in honor of those who serve and have served this nation.
