Alabama to Play Remaining Home Games in Updated Arena

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Pelham Civic Complex recently underwent a $1.8 million renovation. The rink was updated to accommodate the Birmingham Bulls, a professional hockey team in the SPHL that has relocated to the area after an absence of 27 years. The Alabama hockey program will play their remaining home games in the updated rink.

The renovations in the arena have nearly doubled the amount of seating. The rink, which previously contained bleachers, now has 4,100 individual seats that form a bowl around the ice. Further renovations will bring the total number of seats to 5,000. The Pelham Civic Complex has also added a new video board to the main arena, and the lighting and sound systems have been updated.

“The new arena will allow fans to be as close to the ice surface as possible,” said Griffin Butler, the team’s secretary of gameday staff. “New top of the line speakers and a giant Jumbotron will make the fan experience better than it has ever been.”

Alabama’s next home game is Dec. 8 at 7:00 p.m. CT. The team will face the Midland Warriors, who are currently ranked No. 17 in the nation. If the rankings hold, through the teams’ meeting at Midland this week, it would mark the first-ever matchup between two nationally ranked Division-I teams in Pelham.
