TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama Hockey players began visiting Holt elementary every week starting on Monday morning. This is the first time that Alabama Hockey has paired up with an elementary school and both the team and Holt’s staff are excited to see the results.
The team read to classrooms and helped the staff with other daily activities in an effort to inspire children and aid the community. Team members look forward to continuing to help educate young students and bring excitement into their classrooms by switching up their normal routine.
“I think it’ll was a really good experience,” sophomore goalie Sam Schilling said. “It’s always good to reach out and connect with the community and to raise awareness about the growth of the team. Hopefully, we can also potentially introduce some kids to the game of hockey.”
Thirteen players appeared at Holt Elementary on Monday, and Alabama Hockey hopes to connect with more local schools in the near future.
“We’re all really looking forward to the opportunity to get out and mentor the kids.” Schilling said.
The players that attended this week were Mike DeLise, Marc Demers, Thomas Godfrey, Jeremy Hannah, Taylor Joseph, James Martin, Pierre Ouellette, Nick Price, Anthony Rorres, Sam Schilling, Chris Skeates, Ian Soifer and Dylan Teed.
