Erik Evenson Hired as Director of Broadcasting for Macon Mayhem

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Former Alabama Hockey player and broadcaster Erik Evenson has been hired as the new Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations for the Macon Mayhem of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL).

Evenson, a 2016 graduate of the University of Alabama, played 24 games for the hockey team from 2012 to 2013. He then served as a color analyst on the broadcast for his final two seasons with the organization. He was the 2014 recipient of the Brent Ullom Award, an award voted on by the players for dedication and service to the team.

From 2014 to 2016 Evenson was featured on the broadcast for more than 60 games, including two SECHC Tournaments. His playing background gave him the ability to provide listeners and viewers a unique perspective into the nuances of the game. He will provide Play by Play for the Macon Mayhem for the 2016-2017 season.

Kendall Grayson, Director of Broadcasting, released the following statement:

"Everyone in the organization is extremely excited for Erik as he begins the next stage of his career. It was an absolute privilege to work with him on the broadcast for the past two seasons. He was always prepared for any situation that might come up during the course of a three-hour broadcast. He closely related with the players on our team and helped make the games exciting for the folks tuning in. Erik always had enthusiasm for the game, even at times when the two scores on the scoreboard were far apart. He has the full support of everyone here at our organization and we look forward to following his professional career. Over the past four years, Erik has become one of my closest friends, I am grateful for everything he has done for our broadcast and I wish him all the best at the next level!"

Evenson becomes just the second person affiliated with the hockey program to obtain a job in professional hockey. The first was former Columbus Cottonmouths Assistant Coach and current Alabama Head Coach John Bierchen.

Evenson will make his professional hockey broadcast debut on October 21st when the Macon Mayhem play host to the Columbus Cottonmouths.
